My design process

Discovering the problem

Fully understanding the problem is crucial in being able to provide solutions. For me, asking questions up front in these early stages is vital to the success of the project.

Gathering requirements

Once the problem has been understood, I set about gathering requirements. I am an adept communicator and excel in translating requirements into achievable outcomes.

Sketching and wireframing ideas

Now the requirements have been defined, I will often sketch ideas at the earliest opportunity, sometimes this is during the requirements gathering.

As a designer and a visual person, I am never far from my notepad and a pen. Wireframing these sketches is something I get a lot from as I can rapidly create page layouts for feedback.

Developing and iterating

This is the fun part for me, once these sketches and mock ups have been approved, I set about fleshing them out into high-fidelity mockups and prototypes. I usually get a rough first draft out and then take it from there.

I love seeing a design come to life in this stage as I no longer need to use my imagination as much. I also like to get developers involved as early as possible so that what I am proposing is achievable with the tools (and time) available.

Delivering solutions

Once the visuals are approved its time to starting looking to deliver, this includes handing over to developers or building web pages, some final testing and gathering feedback before the solution is delivered.
